Fawley Cup 2025

The Gonzaga Bulldogs made a trip down to Wawawai Landing on Friday to take on a very hungry WSU team. Both programs had shown a lot of promise from the fall and winter training and both came prepared to to show it. The Coug’s took victories in both the Men’s Frosh/Novice 8+ and the Men’s 3V in a 3V that was comprised of 5 rowers who had rowed in the 2V race that started only 30 minutes prior to the 3V race. Tired and depleted from the prior race losing to the 2V the rowers of the 3V got hungry and wanted to take it to the Zag’s and come out on top. The Cougs were down nearly a length with 750 meters to go and started to charge taking seat by seat the Gonzaga 3V and pushed the Bulldogs in the final 500 meters to breakthrough and take the victory by one tenth of a second. All in all some great showings from all crews and looking forward to traveling down south to Sacramento to show off speed at the WIRA Championships.

Race Recaps

The race was well executed by the guys in the boat it just wasn’t the result we had hoped for. We had done what we we wanted to do in the first 1000 and kept building off of that as the race went on. As unfortunate as the outcome was to not win we are still building off of it and looking to keep moving forward with racing still coming up.

I was not very pleased with the way that I had coxed, because I know that I I have done better, and was capable of doing a better job for my boat. This was during the first 1000. We hit one of the buoys and that had made me lose my focus in our boat. Then with the last 1000 we locked it in and did really well. Although it didn’t go the way that I wanted it to go, it was a great learning experience for myself, and I can apply this for future races. I was also really proud of the results and the way my crew kept their heads up and hyped.
