WSU Men's Varsity Lightweights Ranked 10th in the Nation!
According to an April 8th, 2008 poll of the
ACRA coaches, our Varsity Lightweight 8 is ranked 10th in the nation based mostly on the results of the 2008 San Diego Crew Classic. Ranked 1st is the University of California, Berkley (Cal Lights) crew followed by the University of Delaware and University of Pittsburg crews. The men of the WSU Varsity Lightweight 8 vowed to have that ranking get better as the season continues and will not let the past events of this season to hinder what they have worked so hard to achieve.

ACRA Championships & IRA Championships Entries
ACRA Championships:
Four varsity lightweight men, one varsity coxswain and our varsity coach have all announced their commitment in entering a varsity lightweight four in the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships in Oklahoma City, OK. In true commitment to and passion for the team and the sport of rowing, all four rowers will be paying out of their own pockets for both themselves and their coxswain to travel to and stay in Oklahoma City. Additional funding will be asked from the Sport Club Federation Council to pay for the coach's fare. The dates for the inaugural year of the ACRA Championships have been scheduled for May 24 & 25, 2008 and will be held on the Oklahoma River running through downtown Oklahoma City. The formation and creation of the ACRA was in response to recent rumors by the Intercollegiate Rowing Association that after this year, those teams who are not eligible to compete under the IRA's new standards, cannot participate in the IRA Championships.
IRA Championships:
Four varsity men, one varsity coxswain and our varsity coach have all announced their varsity 4 entry into the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships this year. The rowers are paying out of their own pockets to compete showing the true commitment to the team and rowing. This year could possibly be the last time WSU Men's Crew, as a club team, is eligible to enter into the IRA Championships due to rumored changes of the IRA standards of entry going into effect next year. Racing will be held on June 5th through the 7th in Camden, NJ on the Cooper River.

A SUMMER ROWING PROGRAM HOSTED BY WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY MEN’S CREW AND UNIVERSITY RECREATION

Championed by Coach Arthur Ericsson, Palouse Community Rowing is beginning the call for all those over the age of 12 years age in the greater Palouse area wanting to try the sport of rowing this Summer 2008 to sign up. This year's program offerings include: Junior Learn-to-Row, Adult Learn-to-Row, and Masters Crew and Coxing programs. Cougar Crew Days
THE ANNUAL WEEKEND REUNION OF FORMER COUGAR OARSMEN, COXSWAINS, COACHES, FAMILY AND FRIENDS DATING BACK TO 1970.

This year, it was decided that Class Day would be renamed to Cougar Crew Days in an effort to encourage all those involved with Cougar Crew to attend. This includes former oarsmen, coxswains, and coaches (Cougar Crew Alumni) as well as family and friends of both current and past oarsmen, coxswains, and coaches. Of course, all the events and festivities of years past are still happening. The only changes we are making is the addition of a Learn-to-Row session on Saturday for family and friends and giving a more friend and family friendly amostphere to some of the other events including the Banquet and Silent Auction. If you can make it to some or all of the events and festivities, please RSVP so we can get a better idea of how many people are attending and can plan accordingly. Thank you!
So what's the itinerary for Cougar Crew Days 2008? Here's a summary:
Friday, March 14:
- 6 PM: Alumni BBQ @ Ensminger Pavilion (a.k.a.: Livestock Judging Pavilion)
Saturday, March 15:
- 8:30 AM: CCAA Board Meeting @ Lewis Alumni Centre
- All are welcome! Stay informed and add your voice on current issues and goals for the team.
- 1:00 PM: Learn-to-Row @ Ken Abbey Shellhouse, Wawawai Landing
- 2:30 PM: Alumni Races vs. Class Day winners
- Last year we fielded five Alumni 8’s without any fatalities!
