Our Crew’s preparation for the Head of the Lake was affected by an algae bloom that prevented any on-the-water practice time for a two week period leading up to the race. In addition, the weather the day before the race prevented our crews  from running the course prior to the race. The race provided great experience for our young rowers and allowed our varsity 8+ the opportunity to improve their performance against Washington’s “A” crew.

In the Men’s Open 8+ Varsity Race the WSU Men finished 3rd behind Washington and Oregon States number one shells handily beating Western Washington and Oregon State in a time of 16:01.  Their time relative time against  Washington’s “A” varsity was 19 seconds faster than last year. A remarkable improvement.

In the Men’s Collegiate JV  8’s race the WSU Men finished 5th ahead of Lewis & Clark and Western Washington in a time of 17:32. They finished behind Washington, Oregon State, University of Victoria and British Columbia.

In the Men’s Collegiate 3rd Varsity 8’s race the WSU Men finished 7th ahead of British Columbia and Western Washington in a time of 18:11.  They were beat out by three Washington, two Oregon State and one British Columbia shell. This was a very respectable showing as this boat was comprised of 6 novice oarsmen.

In the Men’s 4 race the WSU Men finished 4th behind three Washington boats in a time of 18:06 besting a Seattle University crew.
